SMA Labschool Unsyiah was established in the aftermath of the Aceh tsunami with the support of USINDO. The school upholds international standards and provides a modern, conducive, and innovative learning environment for high-achieving students with strong character.
History of Labschool Syiah Kuala Senior High School
After the earthquake and tsunami that struck most of the coastal areas in Aceh Province on December 26, 2004, USINDO (The United States-Indonesia Society) built a high school in Aceh called Syiah Kuala University Lab High School
The school was officially inaugurated on July 27, 2007, by the Rector of Syiah Kuala University, the Chair of the Aceh-Nias Reconstruction Agency (BRR), and the Co-Chairs of the United States–Indonesia Society (USINDO), Edward Masters and Arifin Siregar. Designed by architects from Syiah Kuala University, the school features spacious classrooms with ample natural light and ventilation, creating a comfortable and conducive learning environment. Earlier, on June 5, 2007, the Aceh Provincial Government, through the Education Office, issued the operational permit for Syiah Kuala University Laboratory High School, Number 421.3/E.1/1347/2007, based on:
- Decree of the Minister of National Education of the Republic of Indonesia No. 060/U/2002 dated April 26, 2002 concerning School Education
- Syiah Kuala Darussalam University Letter No. 0974/1444/TU/2007, dated April 12, 2007
- Banda Aceh City Education Office Letter No. 420/-A.4/3035/2007, dated April 16, 2007
In October 2010, despite being a relatively new school, Syiah Kuala University Laboratory Senior High School was officially recognized as part of the International-Standard School Pilot Program.
